Oil Painting

Think watercolor, but more challenging and smelly - Oil Painting allows me to push my limits as an Artist in more ways than before. The preparation work before is an extensive process of brainstorming, sketching, transferring the sketch onto the canvas, picking out the appropriate colors and brushes, and mixing each solution/chemical to the correct thickness. Some of the obstacles I faced when I was experimenting with this style of art were: color mixing/blending, the thickness of brush strokes, layout of the canvas, and clean-up work. Also, drying a finished piece takes a long time. I still have a long way to go since there are many techniques I have not yet mastered. For instance, I would like to tone my canvases as well as use more advanced solutions to create more diverse colors. Painting with layers is another technique I want to achieve soon. Something that I need to keep in mind is to not rush, especially since Oil Painting takes a long process in the making, and the result is often not what I would hope. Usually, I would get tired when I paint for two to three hours non-stop, so the chances of a mishap are greater. Therefore, frustration would get the best of me and causes me to rush even more. In the future, when I feel like taking a break, I will. There are numerous ways to set up an Oil Painting station; I mostly use the traditional/artistic painting easel, but I also have a portable table easel for easier use when I am not at home.
